Group III

Group III consisted of two round-robin groups of four teams each. The top team from each pool was promoted to Group II for the following year.[4] All matches were played March 20-22 in San Salvador, El Salvador, on outdoor clay courts. Each tie consisted of two singles rubbers and one doubles rubber, while each rubber was best-of-three sets. This became the standard format for the lower tiers of Davis Cup play (that is, Groups III and IV in all three zones), except that groups of eight or more would normally be divided into two separate round-robin pools.
