The GMHL

The GMHL's Entry Draft Showcase took place from May 5 until May 7, 2006 with players from Canada, United States, and Europe taking up residence at the Hockeyworks' World Hockey Centre near Shelburne, Ontario to take part in the league's first tryout camp.[3] The GMHL used the World Hockey Centre as their head office from 2006-2013. The GMHL lists the World Hockey Centre as the leagues official training camp.[4]

The World Junior Hockey League

The World Junior Hockey League was a development boarding school existing from the year 2000-2003. The Toronto Rattlers (Independent), Markham Islanders (OPJHL), Thornhill Islanders (OPJHL) & the Junior Rattlers College Touring Team comprised a four team league that also played exhibition games against junior and private schools across North America.[5]

Bradford Rattlers

The Bradford Rattlers, out of Bradford, Ontario, used the World Hockey Centre facility year-round to house their hockey team from 2006-2008. From 2004 until 2006, the Rattlers toured the United States playing games in junior hockey tournaments and against college teams from 2004 until 2006. A number of alumni received US college offers and Russian Kirill Tulupov was taken by the New Jersey Devils in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

The new ownership group wanted the thirty-five-year-old Toronto-Area franchise moved up to the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League, but when the Ontario Hockey Association turned down the request the team walked away from the OHA. Under the new name "Rattlers", the team is now a member of the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League.

The Rattlers continue to use the World Hockey Centre as their pre-season training camp.[14]

Shelburne Hornets/Wolves

Prior to being renamed the World Hockey Centre in 1999, the facility was known as the Hockey Training Institute. In the late 1990s, the Metro Junior A Hockey League pushed North. In 1995, they brought in the Shelburne Hornets who were affiliated with the then operational Hockey Training Institute (HTI). After the 1995/1996 season the Hornets rebranded themselves and were labeled the Wolves.[15]
