Early life

Tanveer was born into a musical family of Dilli Gharana at Mausiqui Manzil in Darya Ganj, Delhi. His brother, Imran Ahmed Khan (known also as 'Imran Khan' and 'Imran Ahmed') is also a flourishing singer.

Tanveer was born in Daryaganj, Delhi, and grew up there, attending St. James School, Munirka, New Delhi. He started learning classical music at the early age of four years from his granduncle Chand Khan (effective founder of the Dilli Gharana). He then learnt from his grandfather Usman Khan and father Naseer Ahmed Khan. He was only ten years old when his father, naseer Ahmed Khan, died in 1986. Tanveer then continued his musical training from various maestros of Dilli Gharana such as Zafar Ahmed Khan, Zahoor Ahmed Khan and Hilal Ahmed Khan, all of whom were either the brother of first cousin of his late father. In 1994, Tanveer started learning from Iqbal Ahmed Khan, the khalifa (head) of his family, and again a cousin of his father.
