Southern Management Association

The Southern Management Association (SMA) is a regional affiliate of the Academy of Management . It is an academic association with a stated primary purpose to advance the teaching, learning, research, and practice of management. As of 2007, membership was over 900 professors of management, doctoral students, and business executives drawing from over 200 universities and companies in 43 states as well as several foreign countries.[1]

As an academic association, the SMA has deemed the development and dissemination of new ideas and approaches in the science of management as a critical objective. This is done through conferences, cultivation of professional networks and communities, and the maintenance of a database of critical skills and areas of expertise of their members.

The SMA hosts an annual academic conference, publishes a semi-annual newsletter, provides employment placement services for members, and, along with SAGE publications, publishes the Journal of Management.
