SME, Inc. (also SME Branding)[2] is a full-service strategic brand-building and design consultancy headquartered in the Midtown Manhattan area of New York City. Work includes brand management, brand strategy, positioning (marketing), brand identity, marketing, traditional and digital engagement, naming, advertising, social media and digital media for sports and entertainment, higher education, consumer goods and non-profit industries.

History

Founded in 1989 as Sean Michael Edwards, SME[2] has evolved from a consumer-packaged goods design firm to a global consultancy and is currently led by Senior Partner, Ed O'Hara.[1]

Key legacy clients include Colgate-Palmolive, Kraft General Foods, The Millennium Hotel, Estee Lauder, adidas, the World Series, the NBA Finals, WNBA, Indianapolis 500, the 2001 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, the National Hockey League, LPGA[3] the US Olympic Baseball Team, the NY Mets, Seattle Mariners, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Toronto Raptors, Utah Jazz, Washington Wizards, the NFL China Bowl, Jacksonville Jaguars, Major League Soccer,[4] LA Galaxy,[5] Madison Square Garden, The Palace of Auburn Hills and several collegiate programs, including MIT Athletics,[6] Davidson College,[7] the University of Alabama, University of Florida, DePaul and the University of Carolina at Chapel Hill to name a few. SME also assisted the NHL in repositioning the league during the 2005–06 NHL season, following the lockout.

More recent acquisitions include the Boston Bruins, New York Yankees, the Pac-10 (Pacific-10 Conference),[8] Fantasy Sports Ventures and Big Lead Sports,[9][10] NASCAR Media Group, Kentucky Derby,[11] Tampa Bay Lightning,[12][13] Florida Marlins, Marlins Ballpark, Dolphin Stadium, University of Louisville,[14] Quinnipiac University and West Virginia University, among others. SME and Queens College won a Bronze award at the 25th Annual Educational Advertising Awards for the "Meet Your Future" campaign.[15]

SME has also led brand development initiatives with several non-profit organizations, including Osa Conservation on the Osa Peninsula, Genetic Disease Foundation, America Scores, Up2Us, Hope for Heroes, the Ray Festa Melanoma Foundation and the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, NY.
