He is chief executive officer and chairman of Clayco Inc., one of the nation's largest privately owned real estate, architecture, engineering, design-build and construction firms, which he founded in July 1984. In 2015, Clayco had more than 1,600 employees and revenue of $1.35 billion. In 2015, Engineering News Record (ENR) named Clayco the 17th largest U.S. design-builder and 52nd-largest contractor.
