Other Max Michel

Max Michel is also the name of a defrocked married Coptic lector who claims to be the Pope. Although he left the Coptic Orthodox Church in 1976, he claims to have been ordained as a bishop in Nebraska in 2005. In 2006, he announced himself to be Pope Maximos I of Egypt and the Middle East. His claims were condemned by Pope Shenounda III of the Coptic Orthodox Church and Pope Theodore II of the Greek Orthodox Church of Alexandria, Egypt, both of whom considered any ordination Max Michel may have received to be invalid.[3]
