Gorton South

Gorton South is a Local Government ward in the Gorton area of the City of Manchester. The current councillors are Peter Cookson (Labour), Julie Reid (Labour) and Bernard Stone (Labour). The area was previously represented by James Ashley who was Lord Mayor of Manchester at the time of his death in 2006. Former councillors include Simon Ashley (Liberal Democrat) who lost his seat to Peter Cookson in the election of 2011, John Bridges (Liberal democrat) who lost his seat to Julie Reid in the election of 2010, and Charles Glover (Liberal Democrat) who lost his seat to Bernard Stone in the election of 2012. Ellen Wilkinson the educational reformer was a previous Labour councillor in Gorton South.

Gorton South is in the Manchester Gorton parliamentary constituency.
