Descendants 2 is an upcoming Disney Channel original movie set to premiere in the summer of 2017 on Disney Channel.[1] It is the sequel to the 2015 film Descendants. The teaser trailer was released in July 2016 on Disney Channel's official YouTube page.[2] The film stars Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, Booboo Stewart, Sofia Carson, Mitchell Hope and China Anne McClain.[3]

Plot

The story continues as Ben (Mitchell Hope), who is now the King of Auradon, helps Mal (Dove Cameron), Evie (Sofia Carson), Carlos (Cameron Boyce) and Jay (Booboo Stewart), as they're trying to balance their wicked roots with their newfound life at Auradon Prep. New threats emerge as Uma (China Anne McClain), daughter of Ursula and archenemy of Mal, recruits Harry Hook (Thomas Doherty), son of Captain Hook, and Gil (Dylan Playfair), son of Gaston in a plan to release the villains on the Isle of the Lost, while Ben helps Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay return home to the island in order to find out what these new Villain Kids are up to.[4][5]

Development

At the 2015 D23 Expo, Disney announced that a Descendants sequel film had been ordered.[11] An official announcement was made on Disney Channel's Facebook page on October 15, 2015.[12] Deadline Hollywood reported that Parriott and McGibbon would return as screenwriters and executive producers for the sequel and that the cast from the first film was expected to return.[13]

Casting

On June 10, 2016, China Anne McClain, who was already voicing Freddie on the Descendants spinoff series Descendants: Wicked World, was announced to be playing Ursula's daughter, Uma, in Descendants 2.[3] In July 2016 it was revealed that Thomas Doherty would play the role of Harry, the son of Captain Hook.[6] Earlier Sarah Jeffery revealed that she would not be returning, while Brenna D'Amico revealed that she would be returning in Descendants 2, as well as Dianne Doan, Jedidiah Goodacre, and Zachary Gibson.[7]
